Damp Proofing

We would all expect our homes to be waterproof, but sometimes that just isn't the case. Dampness in buildings is one of the most common causes of building failure. It can originate in many ways and can cause a variety of side effects on materials, including plaster breakdown, salt contamination, peeling paint and timber decay. Buildings need protection from:

• Condensation - which occurs if there is inadequate ventiliation in the property.
  
  
• Rising Damp - where water is sucked up through the brickwork at ground level via capillary action.
  
  
• Penetrating Damp - where water enters the brickwork via a leak or simply rain penetration into poorly jointed walls.

Dampness is not only unhealthy for buildings, but it is unhealthy for us! Excess moisture in buildings can cause us to feel unwell due to the presence of bacteria that thrive and multiply in warm and moist conditions.

By having a Damp Proof Course (DPC) installed, you are protecting your house and family from these unwanted and unhealthy effects.
